IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jimmie Carlton
Diehl
September 14, 1933 – March 11, 2022
Memorial services for Jimmie C. Diehl, 88, of Livingston, Texas will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. in the Escapees Care Center located at 155 Care Center Dr. in Livingston, Texas.
Born in Ysleta, TX on September 14, 1933, Jim Diehl passed away peacefully on March 11, 2022 in Livingston, Texas. He was the son of Ora Diehl and Harriett Carlton, and had one sister, Dorothy. Jim is now together with them in heaven.
In 1951, Jim graduated Austin High School in El Paso, TX. He then attended the University of Texas (El Paso) for business administration. Afterwards, he joined the Navy for two years, keeping officers' records aboard ship while in Japan. Soon after, Jim was married to his first wife, Page, and they had three children--Carlton, Addison and Katherine. After his divorce, Jim moved to Houston in the late 1970's to work for Solvay America.
While in Houston, Jim met Anita Hickman at a Christmas Support Group for new divorcees. The two fell in love and wed on July 17, 1984. In 1993, Jim and Anita moved back to Georgia to take care of Anita's 88-year-old mother. In 1997, they eventually sold the family home in Atlanta and traveled full-time in a fifth wheel for two years. In 1999, the two bought a home at Rainbow's End in Livingston, TX, and for a number of years spent six months at home and six months traveling. In 2019, they moved to Escapee's CARE, living in a destination trailer one block from the CARE Center where Jim enjoyed eating lunch with his wife and friends.
For many years, Jim led a computer group for fellow Escapees, enjoyed working in his woodshop and kept the couple's personal accounting straight. Through it all, he had a smile as wide as Texas. Jim is survived by his wife, Anita; son Addison; step-daughters, Sara (spouse Lance) and Jenny (spouse Maggie), and grandchildren: Milo, Lili and Iolana.
In lieu of flowers, donations on behalf of Jim can be made to Escapees CARE. https://escapeescare.org
