Obituary

Jimmie Don Jones, 71, of Livingston, Texas was born February 15, 1945 in Blackwell, Oklahoma and passed away July 20, 2016 in Livingston, Texas. He loved Lake Livingston, and in 1973 built a vacation home and eventually retired there in 2004. Lake Livingston held a very special place in his heart, referring to it as his "happy place" and, fittingly, it is where his journey ended. He was a tough man and went out as he lived his life, on his own terms. Jimmie proudly served his country in the United States Army and the Texas Army National Guard. He was a master paratrooper, a jump school instructor, and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Army after 24 years with the rank of Major. Later, he retired from Shell Oil after 40 years. Mr. Jones was a Life Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a part of the Corral Club Committee for 20 years and a President of the Hold 'Em and Hit 'Em Club. During his life he was also an Eagle Scout and scout leader, avid hunter and fisherman, and loved all water sports. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom Little, Jr. and Ruby Nolan Little; and wife, Edith Stagg Jones.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Jones-Garrison and grandson, Nolan Garrison of Livingston, Texas; sisters, Cindy Jordan and Patty Hoffman of Houston, Texas and Paula O'Steen and Aubrey of Tucumcari, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Betty Demara and Bob of Sugarland, Texas; brother-in-law, John Stagg and Rhonda of Houston, Texas; and favorite niece, Mandy Jordan of Houston; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Jones will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo or to the Hold 'Em & Hit 'Em Club.
