Funeral services for Jimmy Earl Stephens age 67, of Livingston, will be held Saturday October 17, 2009 at 2:00pm at Central Baptist Church in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Frank Hood, Bro. Harold Isaacs, Bro. Byron Lyons and Calobe Isaacs officiating with interment to follow in the Mt. Rose Cemetery in Livingston. Pallbearers will be W.A. Cook, Corky Cochran, Mike Parker, Doug Campbell, Donald Wayne McClain, Wayne Keller, James Kessler, Johnny Sitton, Otis Ray Campbell, Randy Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Livingston Fire Department, Onalaska Fire Department, Scenic Loop Fire Department, all area Fire, EMS & Law Enforcement Agencies, the City Of Livingston and the Polk County Official and Staff. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Kitchen and Utilities Fund.
Jimmy was born November 6, 1941 in Livingston, Texas the son of B.F. Stephens and Wilma Lee Nelson Stephens and passed away October 14, 2009 in Lufkin, Texas.
He was the former president of the Board of Directors of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce, former president of the Livingston Lions Club, former executive Vice President of the First National Bank of Livingston and former manager of the Polk County Farm Bureau, he became a member of the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department in 1973 and formerly served the department as Lt. and also as Captain and in 1978 was elected department treasurer and continued to serve in that capacity until he passed away. During his department years he attend Texas A&M Fire Training School as well as Livingston Area Fire School where he served as an instructor. During his years of service he coordinated the meals for the students and instructors for the Livingston Area Fire School, he coordinated the Annual Livingston Fire Department Christmas Party meals as well as various other dinner events that the department conducted during the year. He over saw the Annual Christmas Party feed for the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department and coordinated the meal through the City Of Livingston for the Green Forest Chapter of TWA. No one ever left one of his functions hungry or unhappy with the quality or the amount of food he provided.
Jimmy graduated from Livingston High School in 1960 where he received numerous awards in FFA including the Lions Club Award, Lone Star Farmer Award, Star Farmer Award, Degree of American Farmer, Degree of Chapter Farmer Award, Officer Of The Year, Flowers Leadership Award and the Matthews Scholarship Award, other awards in FFA included, Certificates of Merit for: Farm Jobs & Skills, Beef Production, Fitting & Showing of Beef Calves and Excellence In District and Area Contests and The American Legion Certificate Of Distinguished Achievement he also received the Delta Tau Alpha Agricultural Honor Society from Sam Houston State University in 1963.
Jimmy is survived by Darla & Stuart Overstreet, daughter & son in law of Livingston, Jason & Lisa Stephens, son & daughter in law of Livingston, Lacey Rhodes, granddaughter of Livingston, Hayden Stephens, grandson, of Livingston, Ben Stephens, grandson, of Livingston, Justin Overstreet, grandson, of Livingston, Myrta & Pat La Velle, sister & brother in law of Livingston and Brenda Tomek, niece, numerous cousins and friends also survive.
