Funeral services for Joe Mike Walker, 91, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Friday, April 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Gary Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in the Bluff Creek Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2023, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., before the service begins.

Joe Mike Walker was born on December 19, 1931 in Livingston, Texas to parents, David Webster Walker and Jenny (Harrell) Walker. Joe Mike passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023.

He attended Livingston public schools and graduated with the class of 1950. He was a 1954 college graduate of Sam Houston State University. He married his college sweetheart Barbara Ann Schraub on May 15, 1954. Joe Mike proudly served in the United States army from 1954-1956. Joe Mike and Barbara had 2 children; Michael Wayne Walker and Sherrill Lynn (Walker) Platt. Joe Mike's first coaching and teaching jobs were at Willis ISD and Kennedy ISD. He also worked for the Texas Department of Corrections as a correctional officer and a field captain for the Ferguson Farm Unit in Madisonville, Texas. After moving his family to Livingston, Joe Mike coached at Livingston Jr. High, served as the ISS director for the Redirect Program and was tax assessor collector for LISD until his retirement.

Joe Mike is preceded in death by his parents, David and Jenny Walker, wife, Barbara, grandson, Jesse Wade Platt; brothers, Glen, Harold D., and Merdolph Walker; and sister, Geri Wooley.

He is survived by his son, Mike Walker and wife Vickie of Livingston; daughter, Sherry Platt and husband Morris of Livingston; twin sister, Patsy Yarsa and husband Alex of Livingston; sister, Alice McDougald of Livingston; granddaughter-in-law, Stacey Platt of Corrigan; and grandchildren, Daniel Walker and wife Candice of Conroe, Joseph Walker and wife Bridget of Magnolia, Ann Marie McLennan and husband Mark of Sugar Land, Erin Zampierin and husband Andrew of Dallas, Leah Platt and Eli Conner of Livingston.

Joe Mike is also survived by his 16 great grandchildren, Addi Platt, Bentley Borel, Levi Platt, Maicyn Edgar, Kylie Walker, Carter Zampierin, Preston Walker, Benjamin Walker, Tyson Zampierin, Joshua Walker, Declan Walker, McCoy Conner, Matthew Walker, Milam Conner, Cooper Zampierin, and Greyson Walker; as well as numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Pallbearers: Daniel Walker, Joseph Walker, Garry Wooley, Doug James, Larry James, Mark Walker, Clint Walker, and Jeff McDougald.
