John Gorden Bowlin, Jr. of Livingston died peacefully at home after a brief illness.
He was born on May 28, 1929 to John and Ollie Bowlin. After graduating from high school in 1947, he worked in the oil fields and went to college until he was drafted into the army in 1950. After serving 2 years, he spent his days flipping burgers and nights taking classes at North Texas State University in Denton, TX. A few years later he moved to Abilene, TX where he worked and studied at Hardin Simmons University. He graduated in 1961 with a Business Administration degree. He used this degree to further his career in both the oil field and shipping businesses.
John Gorden was known professionally as John but by family as Gorden. Gorden's passions and hobbies included fishing, boating, golfing, bowling, dancing, and being any place he could 'pop a top' and enjoy a cold one chatting with friends and family.
Gorden spent most of his adult life living in Houston cheering on the Oilers and Texans. He and his wife, Glenda, married in Houston in 1980. In 2000, they moved to Lake Livingston to spend their free time on the lake fishing.
Gorden was predeceased by his parents, Uncle Dude, and step-daughter, Lisa.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Glenda. His son Stovy Bowlin and his wife Anna, son Brad Bowlin, daughter Kim Grasser and her husband Lou Valenti, step-daughter Gaynelle Baum and her wife Gail, grandson Ryan Grasser and his partner, Azlyn, and grandson Cody Szell.
Pallbearers: James Zander, Lou Valenti, Ryan Grasser, Cody Szell, Marvin Packett, Harold Neyland
Honorary pallbearers: Gerry McCarty, Bob Barton, Ron Mallard, Charles Kennedy, Sam Pittman
Our loss is large but our memories of this man with a never ending sense of humor will sustain us. We love you!
