Obituary

John Calandra went to his final resting place with the Lord on October 12, 2022, following a brief illness. In his final days, family and friends were by his side.

He was born August 25, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York. At age 10, John moved to Union Beach, New Jersey with his family. He joined the Navy in 1951 and married his high school sweetheart, Margie, in 1952. John served in the Navy as an aerial photographer during the Korean Conflict.

In 1976, John moved to Texas, where he and Marge ran a successful photo developing business, Family Photo, in Cleveland and Livingston for 20 years. He was a proud and loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who loved him, but we are all thankful he is now at peace.

John was a long-time member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Livingston and was a resident at Escapees Care Center, also in Livingston. Both of the organizations were a very important part of his life over the past few years, and the family is thankful for the friends he had there.

John is survived by four children, Peggy Newbold and husband Rob of Durham, Connecticut, Nancy Haynes and husband Joe of Livingston, Texas, Theresa Cobb of Goodrich, Texas, and Paul Calandra and wife Denise of San Antonio, Texas; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; brother, Joseph and wife Juliet of Bayville, New Jersey; and sister, Sylria Sproul of Tarvares, Florida.

John is preceded by his loving wife, Margaret "Marge" Ann Mount; parents, John and Anna (Raskowsky) Calandra; brother, Leonard; sister, Doris (Moran); son, John; and great grandson, Cody Ballard.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the wonderful caregivers of Kindred Hospice and Pine Ridge Health Care, both of Livingston, Texas. They provided exceptional care of John and support to the family in his final days.

A memorial service for John will be announced sometime in 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute donations in Johns honor to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
