IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John D.
Clifton Jr.
July 11, 1939 – December 26, 2022
Funeral services for John D. Clifton Jr., 83 will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2022 at First Baptist Church, prior to the service.
John was born July 11, 1939 in Pueblo, Colorado to his parents, John Duke (JD) Clifton Sr. and Marcella Maxine (Baumgartner) Clifton and passed away December 26, 2022 in The Woodlands, Texas.
John's early jobs included a tour in the US Army during Vietnam, teletype operator at Texas Construction Materials in Corrigan, Paymaster for WT Carter & Brother Lumber Company, co-owner of Clifton Duke Chevrolet and was the owner of John Clifton Enterprises and Clifton Chevrolet in Corrigan since 1988.
He has given so much of his time and out of his pocket to help those in need and make Polk County a better place to call home. He served on the Corrigan City Council for 16 Years. For 19 years he has supported fundraising efforts for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. He has organized cooking teams and fundraisers for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship fund. Mr. Clifton was a charter member of the Corrigan VFW post 6521 and a member of the American Legion Post #629 in Camilla.
He was a Trinity Neches 4H/FFA Livestock show buyer and supporter. From donating vans to churches to organizing fundraisers too numerous to continue to list I think it is clear to see why Mr. John D. Clifton was selected as our 2016 Polk Countian of the Year.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann (Purdue) Clifton of Corrigan, Texas; son, John Frank Clifton of Livingston, Texas; daughter-in-law, Brenda Clifton of Livingston, Texas; grandsons, Cole Clifton of Livingston, Texas, Cory Davis of Livingston, Texas, and Keil Davis and wife Kat of Houston Texas; great grandson, Blake Davis of Livingston, Texas; sister, Sandra D.
