Obituary

John C. ""Jake"" McSpadden passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2009. He was born March 25, 1915 in Teague, Texas to William Hardy McSpadden, Sr. and Eunice Ogilvie McSpadden.

He graduated from Teague High School in 1931. He attended T.C.U. in Ft. Worth and Texas Tech in Lubbock.

Mr. McSpadden was employed by the Teague State Bank on January 2, 1936. He married Dorothy Harrison on July 3, 1939. He served as Scoutmaster, volunteer fireman, Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge #739, Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of other civic organizations while living in Teague.

He served in the U.S. Army form February 1944 to January 30, 1946 with Company L. 333 Regiment 84th Infantry Division in the European-theatre. He received three Battle Stars for Combat in The Ardennes, The Rhineland and Central Europe. He received an honorable discharge in January 1946.

Mr. McSpadden worked for the Teague State Band until 1946.

He moved to Livingston, Texas in 1956 with his wife and daughter, Linda, where he was employed by the First State Bank of Livingston for the next twenty-nine years. He retired as President in 1985.

Jake was President of Livingston Lions Club in 1971-1972; Polk County Man of the Year in 1979; Treasurer of the Red Cross of many years; other miscellaneous school and civic organizations; and Board Member of the Chamber of Commerce, Trinity River Authority, State Chartered Banks, as well as an original Board Member of The Morrison Foundation.

He was a member of the Untied Methodist Church of Livingston where he swerved on the Administrative Board. He was President of the Methodist Men for a number of years and was also a long time member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

The moved to The Woodlands, Texas in 2002. Jake and his wife celebrated 70 years of marriage on July 3, 2009.

Mr. McSpadden is survived by his wife, Dot, and daughter, Linda M. Lees, of The Woodlands, Texas; his granddaughter, Julie Fahy, and her husband, John, of Coppell, Texas; and great-grandson, Jacob Wilkinson and his father, Mark Wilkinson of Tomball, Texas. He is also survived by two brothers, W.H. (Billy) McSpadden, Jr., and his wife, Marie of Teague, Texas and Garland McSpadden and his wife, Leonora, of Harker Heights, Texas.

His parents and one brother, Bernard McSpadden, and his wife Rachael, preceded him in death. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, located at 2801 Highway 190 W., Livingston, Texas on Saturday, August 8th, 2009 at 10:00am. The Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston, Texas, located at 13401 Eastex Freeway (Highway 59) at 2:00pm.
