Funeral services for John "Wilburn" Reeves, 77, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Chuck McLaurin officiating. Interment will follow in the Camp Ruby Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.
Mr. Reeves was born November 13, 1939 in Livingston, Texas to parents, Monroe Stephenson Reeves and Agnes Roberta (Hammond) Reeves, and died on June 6, 2017 at the age of 77. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myra Sue Reeves; and nephew, Booger McLaurin.
He is survived by his daughter, Leona Wiggins, and husband, Bill of Livingston; grandson, Eric Wiggins and wife, Helen of Humble; granddaughter, Amanda Haynes and husband, Andrew of Livingston; great-grandson, Aiden Haynes of Livingston; great-granddaughters, Allie Haynes of Livingston, and Sydney Wiggins of Humble; great-grandson, Jake Wiggins of Humble; sisters, Myrle McLaurin and husband, Robert of Livingston, and Cecilia Carr and husband, Bill of Dallas; brothers, Aidney Reeves and wife, Ruth of Livingston, and Ronnie Reeves and wife, Juanita of Livingston; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Andreas of Livingston; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and friends.
Wilburn was most known for his work as a police officer for the City of Livingston from October 1, 1977 to January 15, 1982; as well as a security/collections officer for the First State Bank in Livingston from 1982 to 2000, when he retired due to health issues.
His love for horses led him to many trail rides with his favorite being the Dogwood Trail Ride; where he was the flagger and Roy Sanders drove the sound truck. To this day, that friendship was as strong as ever. His role as grandfather and great-grandfather was one he took serious. He loved watching his grands in whatever they did, whether it was sports or just them climbing up in his lap to sit.
