John Lamar Riley III, 60, of Livingston, Texas, died Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Kingwood Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Riley was born on November 6, 1958, in Houston, Texas to John Lamar Riley Jr. and Vera (Smith) Riley. Mr. Riley graduated from The Kinkaid School, Houston, Texas, in 1977. He attended Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California and The University of Texas at Austin.
Mr. Riley inherited his love for animals and training hunting dogs from his father. This enthusiasm became his life-long passion and led to a career as a hunting guide where he became very successful and was well known on all South Texas ranches. He inherited his love for horses and riding from his beloved grandmother "Mama Willie". To know John was to love him.
Mr. Riley is preceded in death by his father John Lamar Riley Jr. He is survived by his mother, Vera Smith Brown of Houston, Texas; sister, Vera Jan Riley of Houston, Texas; and brother, James Patrick Riley DDS of Helotes, Texas; along with other relatives and life-long friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2019, in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery where Mr. Riley will be buried next to his father. Visitation will take place from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2019, at the Cochran Funeral Home. Pallbearers include Robert Baldwin, MD, Grady Engelking, Andy Griesbaum, Rob Jamail, Douglas McKinnon, Cameron Labunski, Will Majors, and Davis Whiteford. Honorary Pallbearers include Douglas Bacon, Ben Bailey, Monty Briscoe, Bill Fitch, John David Griesbaum, Jeff McDowel, Kaden Mueck, Enrique Ortega, MD, and Bo Whiteford.
For those desiring, memorials may be made to the Caesar Kleberg Foundation for Wildlife Conservation.
