Memorial services for John Guy Slocomb, age 56 of Livingston will be held Thursday September 9, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Livingston with Pastor Sam Steele officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday September 8, 2010 from 6:00pm till 8:00pm at Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston.
He was born December 15, 1953 in Galena Park, Texas the son of Richard S. and Jane Thompson Slocomb. He passed away peacefully at his home in Livingston, Texas on September 4, 2010.
John graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in finance. After college John began a distinguished and successful career as a banker. In 1985 John moved his young family to Livingston, Texas , to become involved in obtaining the charter for The Bank of Livingston, where he served as President and CEO until the merged with the First National Bank of Livingston in 1998 where John served as President and CEO until his death. John served with great pride as a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Bankers Association, and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Livingston, Texas, Memorial Medical Center Livingston Board of Directors, Habitat for Humanity, Livingston Lions Club, and many other community organizations throughout the years. John was recognized as Polk Countian of the Year in 2004. John had a great passion for golf and his boat. He will always be remembered for his kind and generous nature of a true gentleman.
John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Constance ""Connie"" Slocomb, his son John Allen Slocomb and daughter-in-law, Shay, of Boerne, Texas, his daughter, Rachel Slocomb, and his sister Lucy Slocomb Thompson and brother-in-law John P. Thompson of Livingston, Texas. He also is survived by one granddaughter, Madilyn Slocomb of Boerne, Texas, niece Beth Thompson Wolf of Missouri City, Texas and nephew Rick Thompson of Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Polk County Higher Education and Technology Foundation or SAAFE House-Polk County or the charity of your choice.
