Memorial services for John Thomas Wilkins Jr., 74, of Onalaska, Texas, will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the Point Blank Community Church in Onalaska, Texas with Rev. Don Davis officiating.
Mr. Wilkins was born January 21, 1941 in El Paso, Texas to parents, John Thomas Wilkins Sr. and Louise (Badouh) Wilkins, and passed away May 25, 2015 in Onalaska, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents.
John grew up in San Antonio, Texas and graduated from T.M.I. in 1959 and earned a B.A. from Texas Tech University in 1964 where he met and fell in love with his wife, Nancy Louis Therrell.
John was active in several civic organizations, past President: San Antonio Jaycees 1973; Vice-President of the San Antonio Home Builders Association. In 1973 he traveled to Paris to deliver petitions to obtain Red Cross applications and humane treatment for all American POW/MIA's at the Vietnam Embassy. He was instrumental in the massive clean-up effort for Chambers County and the Onalaska area after Hurricane Ike.
John was an active coach of fun football, little league baseball, and an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy; their son, Reagan Wilkins and his wife, Alison of Katy, Texas; sister, Betty Lou Johnson and husband, Gary Johnson of Katy, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Sean Thomas Wilkins, 26, Madeleine Lee Wilkins, 24, and Annaise Louise Wilkins, 12; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
