Funeral services for Jose Alonso, Jr., 86, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Melvin Cates. Interment will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska, Texas. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2020, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.

Jose or JoJo, as some called him, was born December 9, 1933 in Houston, Texas, and passed away November 21, 2020 in Livingston, Texas. He was raised in Houston, Texas and was a graduate of St. Thomas High School. In his younger days, he was a drummer and played in several hotels, like the Rice Hotel and The Warwick Hotel in Houston. He also worked at Southern Pacific Railroad and retired from there in the 1980's.

Jose, Shirley and Monica moved from Houston to the Onalaska area in 1982. They loved Polk County and the lake area. What Jose was most proud of, both his grandchildren pursued music in college and as a career. Both of them are percussionists, just like their Paw Paw.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Alonso; son, Jose Alonso III "Trey"; and brother, Fred Alonso.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Ed Munson of Livingston; grandson and wife, Daniel Jose and Shelby Munson of Livingston; granddaughter, Isabella Munson of Livingston; sisters, Teresa Alonso and Judy Sykora both of Houston; brothers, Lambert Alonso and John Alonso both of Houston; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
