Joseph Thurston Dabney, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2010 with his family at his side. He was 86 years of age. He was born November 12, 1923 in Forney, Texas to Ann Lucile Bryan Dabney and Joseph Thurston Dabney.
Dr. Joe practiced medicine with humility and compassion for many years in Livingston and Polk County. He was dedicated to his family, his church, and the community he loved. He was a graduate of Livingston High School, Sam Houston State Teachers College, and Tulane University Medical School, and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
He dedicated himself to helping improve medical care in Livingston and Polk County and was very influential in this life-long pursuit. He also served as a City Councilman, was a Past President of the Lions Club, and served his church in many capacities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Bryan Dabney. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Beauchamp Stephens Dabney; sons Joseph Thurston Dabney, III and wife Jan, Michael Paul Dabney and wife Susan; grandchildren Paul Bryan Dabney and Alice Catherine Dabney Eikenberg and husband Christopher; sister-in-law Ruth Saxton Dabney; caregivers Victoria Spencer, Cal Bogany, and Laurel Gibbons, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Services will be May 4, 2010 at 2 PM at First United Methodist Church, 2801 HWY 190 W, Livingston, Texas. Cochran Funeral Home, 406 Yaupon, Livingston, Texas is in charge of arrangements.
