Joy Lynette Sterling was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many. Throughout her life, she worked at Brown and Root, sold insurance, and managed a movie theater. She always did her best to provide for her three children.
In her later years, Joy embraced her love of gardening and birdwatching, earning herself the titles of horticulturist and birdwatcher. She especially enjoyed spending time in her yard, planting flowers and other plants, photographing their blooms, and sharing the beautiful results on Facebook. She also loved taking cuttings from her plants to share with others.
Joy enjoyed trying new recipes and sharing them, along with funny videos, on Facebook. She was a talented artist who loved painting alongside her mother and even painted her own floors decoratively. She enjoyed listening to music and, of course, watching TV. Her taste in entertainment was as varied as her interests, and she loved everything from Shrek to Landman.
Joy had an incredible sense of humor and a wonderfully quirky way of looking at the world. She could say the most unexpected things, leaving her family laughing and shaking their heads in affection, often saying, “Oh, that’s Joy in true fashion!” Her humor was uniquely hers and became one of those special things her family will always remember and cherish.
Joy also loved the ocean, a place that held a special meaning for her. In keeping with her wishes, she will one day become part of the ocean she loved, returning to a place of beauty, peace, and endless horizons.
Above all, Joy treasured her family. While she loved her fur babies, her greatest pride was the legacy she leaves behind: her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her quite as much joy as hearing news of a new great-grandbaby—news that could bring tears of happiness to her eyes. She loved being Grammy Joy, a title she held close to her heart and one that will forever be remembered with love.
The family will host a memorial service in Joy’s honor at a later date.
