IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joy Massey
Wright
March 19, 1932 – October 8, 2018
Joy Massey Wright passed into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus at the age of 86, on October 8, 2018 after months of declining health. In her final days, she was cared for by her family, friends and Oasis Hospice at the Kindred Rehabilitation Hospital in Humble, Texas. Joy was born and raised in Tallulah, Louisiana to Laura Cline Massey and John Van Buren Massey on March 19, 1932. She was a graduate of Tallulah High School and went on to gain her business degree from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana. After graduating, she began work at Lion Oil in Eldorado, Arkansas where she met Thomas Stevens Wright, the love of her life. They were married on November 5, 1955 and had three children, Laura Lisa in 1956, Thomas Randolph in 1959, and Stephen Andrew in 1960.
Joy and Tommy made a wonderful home for their family in Eldorado and even when times were tough provided all the best for their children. They brought the family up in the church and stayed close to their extended family through annual picnics and countless camping and fishing trips. Joy worked while the kids were at school as an accountant and as a substitute teacher. Tommy retired from Amoco Oil in 1980 due to health issues and they built their dream home in Pinwah Pines on Lake Livingston in 1982. They had many years of happiness fishing, playing chess and cards, cooking-up-a-storm for family and friends, taking care of their grandchildren, bird-watching from their porch swing and making lasting friendships in their church and community. Joy lived joyfully and in Christ. She put others before herself and to her final days offered caring wisdom, comfort, laughter and love to friends and strangers.
Joy is survived by her brother, John Van Buren Massey Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; numerous cousins; Randy and Robin Wright of Hitchcock, Texas; Lisa and Pat Campbell of Callahan, California; and grandchildren Mason Wright Hullquist of Roseberg, Oregon; Tyler Thomas Hullquist of Weed, California; and Everett Alexander and Patricia Ann Hullquist of Fort Jones, California. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tommy; her sister, Mary Ann; her son, Steve; and Shadow, their faithful dog – all gone but not forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 at 1 PM at the First Presbyterian Church located at 910 N. Washington Ave, Livingston, TX 77351, followed by a finger-food reception in the church community hall. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Kids' Free Clothing Exchange, P.O. Box 2555, Onalaska, Texas 77360.
