Memorial services for Juanita Doolittle, 96, of Onalaska, Texas, will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Onalaska, Texas with Rev. Rick Tate officiating.
Mrs. Doolittle was born January 30, 1922 in Jaquin, Texas to parents, Kenneth Lumpkin and Celeste (Keller) Lumpkin, and passed away April 8, 2018 in Livingston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert Allen Doolittle.
After retiring from a career as a nurse, Juanita Doolittle and husband Robert moved to their home in Onalaska.
For many years she was an active member of the UMW (United Methodist Women) at Onalaska First United Methodist Church. She chaired many fundraisers to support community projects. She was also responsible for the Texas Historical Marker placed at the church. She was a special friend to all the church pastoral families who were her neighbor, always welcoming them to the Onalaska church family.
She was a founding member of the Polk County Emergency Health Board, established in 1986, to provide medications for low-income patients. She remained active as a board member (serving as treasurer for many years) until her recent illness.
Juanita was also a founding member of the Livingston Piecemakers Quilt Guild in 1994, and contributed many quilts to area charities over the years. She also passed on her love for quilting to family members, including a niece and granddaughter.
She is survived by her son, Graydon Hake Doolittle and Hendrika of Kingston, Ontario Canada; son, Robert Patrick Doolittle and Kathy of Jacksonville, Texas; daughter, Donna Gail Doolittle of Onalaska, Texas; son, James Kent Doolittle and Patricia of Galveston, Texas; grandchildren, Sarah, Marta, Rob, Eric, Matthew, Zachary, Jonathan, and Kory; and numerous great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
