She is survived by her eldest son, George Packer Sampson III and his wife Patricia of Allentown, Pa.; her second son, Robert Brindley Sampson and his wife Louise of Merritt Island, Fla.; her daughter, Joan Sampson Cupic of Houston, Tx.; her youngest son, James Todd Sampson and his wife Martha of Mt. Pleasant, SC.; her son-in-law Dr. Zoran Cupic of Houston, Tx.; by her grandchildren, Sanya Ahmann, Erika Sykes, Natasha Tessier, Nicole McPherson, Shane Cupic, Todd Sampson, John Sampson, Scott Sampson, Teresa Smith, Chris Olsen, Molly Sampson, Dabney Sampson and Katharine Sampson; and 23 great grandchildren.
Kay, as she was known to friends and family, was born on February 24, 1918, in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of Todd Dresser Cochran and Katharine Freda Glock. After attending Margorie Webster Finishing School in Washington, D.C., Kay settled in the Washington metro area, where she raised her four children. She was the first woman hired in Silver Springs, Maryland Postal Service, she worked at the Army Map Service, Army-Navy Country Club and the National Institute of Health. Kay retired to Lake Livingston, Texas, although she enjoyed her visits to her beach home on the Isle of Palms in South Carolina, spending quality time with her generational family members. She served in many civic organizations including the Ladies Auxilliary of the Bethesday/Chevy Chase Rescue Squad and the Scenic Loop Fire Department. Kay was an avid golfer.
