Kerry Kathleen Becker
September 20, 1957 ?Çô August 15, 2013
Kerry Becker age 55 of Waldorf, MD, formerly of Denver, CO passed away on August 15, 2013, in Aurora, CO. She was born on September 20, 1957, in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland (Canada), to parents Virginia and Paul May.
Kerry has made a lifetime ministry of demonstrating love through pain and difficulty. At the age of 13 she was diagnosed with scoliosis, and the ensuing surgeries to straighten her spine inadvertently gave her HepatitisC through blood transfusions, which ultimately caused her liver to fail. Spending most of her teenage years in body casts, she still learned ways to remain in good spirits and help those around her. These skills became a ministry in themselves as she lived through a series of medical issues resulting in chronic pain management requirements as an older adult. Through more than 23 major surgeries, she still maintained a strong faith, and an ability to share, empathize, and compassionately support those in need that she encountered.
For the last ten years, Kerry was both primary supporter and inspiration for Santas for Christ, a non-profit ministry currently meeting serious community needs in Southern Maryland and Pike County, Kentucky. The work addresses clothing, food, shoes, blankets, school supplies, and toys as part of a broader effort to show how churches with minimal resources can make significant progress in meeting others?ÇÖ needs.
Kerry developed and served as president for a local crocheting organization in Southern Maryland. More than a social group, the organization has worked on projects providing caps for cancer patients, blankets for soldiers stationed overseas, and baby outfits for children in abused spouse programs.
Kerry is survived by her husband, Curtis Becker, of Waldorf, MD, her son, SSgt Thomas Scott Becker, currently assigned to Ft Stewart, GA, and her granddaughter, Serena Joy Becker, of Arundel, MD as well as her brother, Kelly May, of Aurora, CO.
