Obituary

Ester Lafay Duff Babcock West affectionately known as "Nana" was born July 18, 1949 and went to be with the lord on February 27, 2025.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Ester and Margurite Duff, first husband Gary Babock, brothers Quenin Ray "Cooter", Larry and Billy Duff and sisters Bonnel Lundell, Edith Childers and Mary Dobbs.

Lafay is survived by her second husband Glen West of Livingston, Texas; Son Gary Babcock of Killeen, Texas; Daughter Kriste and Kody Knight of Brock, Texas; Son Gary and Randi West of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Grandson Caleb and Brandi Edwards of Livingston, Texas; Grandaughter Courtney and Reece Yeadon of Stephenville, Texas; Grandson Ethan Edwards of Belle Chasse, Louisiana ; Granddaughter Alyson Edwards of Livingston, Texas. Granddaughter Kaitlyn Babcock of Mineral Wells, Texas; Granddaughter Kiera Babcock of Livingston, Texas; Great Grandchildren Rion, Lason, Cambrie, Taylor, Emmaleigh, Callan, Everly, Adalyah, Colt and Emery.

Lafay was born on July 18, 1949, the seventh and last child born to Ester and Margurite. She spent her childhood on the family farm where she developed a love for cattle and horses. She graduated from Livingston High School in 1967, and shortly after when to work for SHECO electric where she met her first husband Gary Babock. Gary and Lafay were married on January 9, 1969, they welcomed their first child Gary Wayne Babcock Jr in 1971 and just a few years later in 1974 welcomed their daughter Margurite Kristen "Kriste".

In 1978 Lafay and her family packed up and moved to Saudi Arabia where they spent the next 5 years. While overseas she worked as a secretary at the fire department while her husband Gary worked as an electrician for RAMCO. They moved back to Texas in 1983 where she was a stay at home mom until her husbands passing in 1989.

In 1990 Lafay met her second husband Robert Glen West "PaPa" and they were married on July 20, 1991 until her passing on February 27, 2025.

Lafay spent the majority of her career serving in law enforcement as a 9-1-1 dispatcher. She worked for the Polk County Sheriff's Department, Corrigan Police Department and retired from the Livingston Police Department in 2021.

Lafay loved many things in her life but what was most important to her was her faith and her family. She spent her life instilling in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the importance of a strong family and the love of Jesus Christ. Lafay leaves a strong legacy behind in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. While she will be missed here on earth we are joyful in knowing she has joined her family in heaven.

Pallbearers: Caleb Edwards, Ethan Edwards, Reece Yeadon, Ray Duff, Alvin Laird, Greg Duff, Scott Duff, and Mark Duff.

Honorary Bearers: Colt Edwards, Callan Yeadon, Gary West, Wayne Babcock, Lawson West, Danny Moye, and Kody Knight.

Services will be held Monday, March 3, 2025, at 1100 a.m., at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Danny Moye and Courtney Yeadon officiating. Interment will follow at Peebles Cemetery in Livingston. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
