IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lance William
Hellerman
May 11, 1943 – July 18, 2022
Lance William Hellerman, 79, of Livingston, Texas, beloved husband of Margot (Bernhart) Hellerman, died July 18, 2022 surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer.
Lance was a loving father to Gregg Seelhoff, Lori Seelhoff, Angelina (Joe) Hellerman, Andrea (Jim) Hellerman, and Sam Hellerman; grandfather to James, Lia, Aleah, Juan, Imogen, and Everly; great grandfather to Magnus. He was brother to Louis (Myrna) Hellerman and Laurie (Hellerman) Manning, and a beloved uncle and great uncle.
Lance grew up in Bay City, Michigan, the son of Sam and Jane Hellerman. He attended Farragut Elementary School and Bay City Central High School. He continued his studies at the University of Michigan where he received a BS degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era as second in command onboard the USS Arikara. From 1968-70 he commanded the Palmer Naval Research Station in Antarctica, where a group of seven small islets (Hellerman Rocks) is named for him. Lance moved to Houston, Texas in 1974, where he married the love of his life with whom he raised a family. During his time in Houston, he worked on off-shore and on-shore oil rig design and repair. His belief in the value of education and human potential is evidenced by his completion of his PhD in Environmental Engineering and the numerous patents held in his name. Lance had many jobs and qualifications, but his most important quality was his love of family, partnered with kindness and willingness to help all those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.
There will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the military support group F.A.I.T.H. (Friends and Individuals Thanking Heroes) at 936-327-7213.
