Lavada Shirley age 81 of Livingston passed away Thursday November 19, 2009. Funeral services will be held Saturday November 21, 2009 at 3:00PM in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Menard Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will will be Friday November 20, 2009 from 5PM to 8PM also at Cochran Funeral Home.
Lavada was born November 16, 1928 in Livingston to parents Garlie Oliver and Cordie Walters Oliver. She graduated from Goodrich High School in 1946. Lavada enjoyed fishing and hunting with her family and especially loved to cook, she was best known for her homemade yeast rolls that her family and friends adored. She worked for Dr. McClain as his office assistant for many years and often talked about how much she enjoyed all the people she got to meet there. Her family was the most important thing to her, although she had a very special love for her grandkids, she would make a special trip ""The Hostage Exchange"" as the family called just to get them for a weekend. She loved any place where people were gathered and laughing. Her house was always open, with coffee and dessert most of the time waiting for you. She loved the Lord and her church family. Lavada loved her husband John of 63 years, and often talked about all the trips and places they were able to share together over the years that she never thought shed get to see.
She is survived by her husband John Shirley of Livingston, daughter Shirl Scott of Livingston, and son John Waymon and wife Bonnie of Livingston, grandson Chris Scott of Atlanta Ga., granddaughters Jennifer Vera and husband Nino of Baytown, and Jessica Bertolia and husband Brent of Tyler, great grandson Saturnino Raithen Vera of Baytown, sister Nelina Morris and husband Jimmie of Livingston and brother Bryant Oliver of Livingston. A host of nieces and nephews also survive her.
Serving as pallbearers will be Milton Thiel, Randy Bailey, Jimmy Ward, James Shirley, Charles Adams, Frank Fawbush.
