Lawrence Lynn Trott, 86, passed away February 13, 2013 in his home at Point Blank, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
Lynn was born on February 17, 1926 in Abilene, Texas to Lawrence and Ruth Trott. He spent his childhood in various West Texas communities where he was active in Boy Scouts, Royal Ambassadors, band and football. He graduated from Rotan High School in Rotan, Texas in 1944. Lynn enlisted in the Army on July 13, 1944 and began his service at Fort Bliss. He married Bettie Charline Hopson of Roby, Texas on December 22, 1944. Lynn transferred to Camp Ross and trained in the Antiaircraft Division as a 40mm Weapons Gunner. He was promoted to Corporal on July 12, 1945 and was sent to serve at Port Moresby, New Guinea with the Transportation Corps. He completed his military service at Camp Stoneman with the rank of Sergeant and was discharged in July 1946. He received a B. S. in Business Administration from McMurry College in 1949. He taught business and algebra and coached football and basketball at Megargel High School in Megargel, Texas in 1949. Lynn began his career with Shell Oil in 1952 in the Pipeline Division in Denver city, Texas. He worked in the Production & Gasoline Services, Purchasing and Accounting Services Administration Divisions in Odessa, Midland and Houston, Texas retiring in 1986.
Lynn was active in Baptist churches and community organizations in the many Texas communities where he lived throughout his life and was a member of the Midland Lions Club. He loved mechanics, woodworking, hunting, fishing, swimming and visiting with his sisters and family.
Lynn married Mary Frances Krouse Ligon on October 17, 1981 in Spring Branch, Texas. They moved to Lake Livingston where he was active in the Point Blank Volunteer Fire Department serving as Fireman, President of the Board and Treasurer. He served the Point Blank Community Church as Elder, Chairman of the Board and Treasurer. Lynn enjoyed building, fishing, RV and cruise traveling for many years with his wife, community friends and sisters.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Mary Trott of Point Blank, TX; sisters, Joyce Surek of Abilene, TX, Virginia Sterling of Burnet, TX, and Glenda Greebon of Abilene, TX; daughters, Dianne Olsen of Brick, NJ, Ginger Rowbotham of Edmond, OK, Bettie Riall of Plano, TX, Pattie Jones of San Angelo, TX; step -daughter, Elaine Ligon Bridges of Little elm, TX; step-son, Greg Ligon of Plano, TX and their respective spouses; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on February 16, 2013 at Point Blank Community Church in Point Blank, TX. Interment services followed at Center Hill Cemetery in Oakhurst, TX where he was laid to rest with Military Honors provided by the VFW Honor Guard Post #8568 and Procession Escort and Last Alarm Ceremony by the Point Blank Volunteer Fire Department.
