Obituary

Lee Roy Eugene Meadows left this world early Monday morning, October 10, 2022 at the age of 90, at home, of an unknown cause.  Born May 20, 1932 in Houston, Texas, Lee Roy is the son of Conrad Coonie Meadows and Myrtle Cunningham Meadows.  Lee Roy's family was poor, and his dad passed away when he was 1 year old.  Lee Roy and Mary Ann Alford married March 3, 1954.  He joined the Navy and served in the boiler room of a ship during the Korean War.  He served his country for 3 years, 8 months, and 24 days, coming out with lifelong lung issues from his work with asbestos.

With Mary's support, he started a specialty plastics extrusion business, Advanced Plastics of Houston in the 70s, creating a livelihood for all his children at some point.  His children still run it today. Lee Roy was a shy man, but for friends or family, he would do anything. A tinkerer, he enjoyed working in the shop in his garage, building things, and working with computers and other gadgets.  He played cards, fished, and mowed his and the neighbors' grass on his riding lawnmower.  Lee Roy took his time, and was often teased about it, but he had a good sense of humor.  He liked to answer questions with a question, and rough-housed with the grandkids and cousins with a menacing growl.

He and his wife's sisters and their husbands all retired next door to each other near Lake Livingston, and created a weekend family community.  He and his brothers-in-law greeted each other with a jovial handshake and, "Hey, brother-in-law!"  Together with his brothers-in-law, Lee Roy would build houses, porches, a tire swing for the kids, even a chess board.

Lee Roy was preceded in death by his sisters and brother Billy Woody, Mary Stansberry, Laverne, Peggy, and Conrad.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Meadows, children, Ronald Meadows, Peggy Angelone, and Larry Meadows, grandchildren Kelli Gallagher, Courtnee Angelone, Max Meadows, and Ellie Meadows, and great grandchildren Fiona, Frankie, and Zenith, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Viewing will be held Saturday, October 15 from 4-7PM at Cochran Funeral Home, 212 Old Groveton Road South, Onalaska, TX, 77360.  Sunday will be a short graveside service at 2PM at Magnolia Cemetery, 492 Magnolia Cemetery Rd, Onalaska, TX 77360 off of 356.
