Linda Hammond passed away peacefully at her home on January 3, 2023. She was born in Germany on January 20, 1952. She was adopted along with her older sister, Anna, by Hubert and Hazel Hammond, while he was stationed in Germany. She and her sister were brought to the United States in 1954. In 1956, Anna and Linda became U.S. citizens.
Linda went to school in Orange, Beaumont and Livingston. She graduated from Livingston High School in 1970, after which, she attended Sam Houston State University for four semesters, majoring in Business Administration.
She started working at Sam Houston Electric Cooperative in 1972 but left for other employment after 15 months. Linda then went on to work for Fox Surveying, Livingston Wood Products, Eastex Telephone Cooperative, Heins Equipment (John Deere dealership), and Putt Watson Motor Company (27 1/2 years). Then, in January of 2022 she retired from the City of Livingston after 15 years.
Linda is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Gerald Brent Harper of New Waverly, Texas; niece and her husband, Wendy and Stacy LaMastus of Willis, Texas; her best friend and companion; Johnny Sutton of Livingston, Texas; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents and her precious great nephew, Cade Sanford.
There will be no funeral or memorial service. Linda will be laid to rest at Bluff Creek Cemetery, beside her parents.
The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Dr. Christine Lee of Texas Oncology in The Woodlands and all her staff, and also to the congregation of the Oak Grove Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, or the American Cancer Society.
