IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lloyd
Dickens
March 5, 1931 – March 13, 2023
Funeral services for Lloyd Turner Dickens will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the service begins.
Lloyd Turner Dickens was born in Dallas, Texas, on March 5, 1931, to Watson and Ollie Dickens; he passed away on March 13, 2023, at 92 years old.
Lloyd graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1949. He then attended Sam Houston State University where he received his BBA and MBA degree and later received his Ed. D. from Western Colorado University. It was during his undergraduate studies at SHSU that he met the love of his life, Jimmie Miriam Henry; they were married on September 12, 1952, and celebrated 65 years of marriage before her passing in 2017. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to Coronado Island where he served in the United States Navy. While in California, they started their family having two daughters, Rebecca Jean and Paula Lynn.
In 1960, Jimmie and Lloyd both left the corporate world and answered God's call to begin their lifetime mission of teaching. After four years in Huntington, Texas and 18 years in Sheldon, Texas, Lloyd and Jimmie moved to Livingston during the summer of 1983. Even though Lloyd retired from public school education, he just couldn't stay away and was asked to be a principal at Word of Life Christian School in Lufkin, Texas. Once that school closed, Lloyd's passion for Christian education continued when he opened Polk County Christian Academy. In his many years as an educator, Dr. Dickens influenced countless students with his strong Christian faith and Biblically-grounded integrity. While in Livingston, Dr. Dickens was an active member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was also a member of Trinity Masonic Lodge No. 14 for more than 60 years and actively served in various capacities with the Livingston Chapter of The Gideons International.
He is survived by his daughters Rebecca Fraley of Bryan, Texas, and Paula Burk of The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Kristopher Fraley and wife, Jeannette of Bryan, Texas; Scott Fraley and wife, Brooke of Bryan, Texas; Melissa Easley and husband, George of Bryan, Texas; Laura Burk Simpson and husband, Michael of Houston, Texas; and Samuel Burk and wife, Ginger of The Woodlands, Texas.
He leaves his legacy of sixteen great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Emily, Kristen, Katherine and William Fraley of Bryan, Texas; Brayden, Clayton and Paisley Fraley of Bryan, Texas; Clint, Kaicer and Kutter Williams of Bryan, Texas; Rebekah, Tyler and Savannah Simpson of Houston, Texas; and Andrew and Caroline Burk of The Woodlands, Texas; one great-great granddaughter Hadley Rae Kindt of Bryan, Texas; and his sister, Helen Dickens Grube, of Livingston, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jimmie Miriam Henry Dickens; his parents, Watson and Ollie Dickens; siblings, Neva Evon Dickens, Ruby Dickens Schlottman, Floyd Dickens, Oliver Dickens, and Doyle Dickens, and son-in-law, Dennis Fraley.
Pallbearers: Kristopher Fraley, Scott Fraley, Samuel Burk, Michael Simpson, George Easley, Russell Coleman, Boyd Dickens, and Jay Dickens. Honorary Pallbearers: Great-grandsons-Clint, Kaicer and Kutter Williams; William Fraley; Brayden and Clayton Fraley; Andrew Burk and Tyler Simpson.
