On Saturday, January 8, 2022, Lois Perkins, loving wife and mother of five children, passed away at the age of 98.
Lois was born October 28, 1923 in Polk County, TX. She was the daughter of James Robert and Quincy Bailey Kervin who preceded her in death along with siblings, J.W. Kervin, Truman Kervin, Bessie Overstreet, Corine Nelson, Margaret Aden, Isaac "Jack" Kervin, Eloise Idrogo and daughter-in-law Alma John Perkins. She is survived by her strapping, younger brother Charles "Buddy" Kervin of Village Mills, Texas.
After graduating from Livingston High School, Lois' good looks and sense of humor attracted a young Claud Perkins from Combs, Arkansas. The coupled married on September 27th, 1941. World War II cut their honeymoon short and Claud enlisted in the Army Air Corp the next spring. Lois moved to California where Claud was based before his deployment in the Pacific and opened a restaurant to keep herself occupied during this stressful time. Upon Claud's safe return in 1945, they moved back to Texas where the couple raised five children in Livingston, not far from where Lois grew up. Over the years, Lois traveled with Claud on various pipeline projects throughout the country when the children were off for summer break. This provided lots of adventure for the children as well as numerous funny stories for Lois to tell as she got older. Lois and Claud were inseparable until Claud's tragic death in 1986.
Lois enjoyed gardening, "putting up" whatever she grew and spending time out at the Perkins' ranch in Bold Springs where Lois and Claud raised a small herd of cattle. Well into her 80s, Lois loved to visit the ranch and sit out on the "perch" to watch for deer.
Family gatherings at the Perkins' home were always fun - full of wise cracking remarks and lots of laughter. If you know Lois' children, you know where they got their unique sense of humor!
Lois leaves behind five children all of whom reside in Texas: Dennis Perkins; Mary Norris DeFazio and husband, Joe Defazio, Quincie Ellis and husband, Stephen Ellis, Patsy Wood and husband, Jerry Wood, Harold Perkins and wife, Adrienne Perkins. Lois is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren! Lois will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ms. Lois' name to the F.A.I.T.H. Military Support Group, 305 W. Mill St., Livingston, Texas 77351.
