Margaret grew up in Breckenridge, Missouri where her dad worked for Burlington Railroad most of his life and her stay – at – home mom raised Margaret and her siblings. Margaret was an avid basketball player and a very popular cheerleader. She attended Girl's State her senior year and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1956. In 1960, Margaret was employed by a telephone co-op and at the age of 23, she became the head bookkeeper of the co-op. In 1963, Marvin and Margaret were married and Marvin gained a wonderful addition to his marriage with Margaret, a son, Terry Dwayne Hicks. Terry would later serve for several years as a Fire Chief of the Scenic Loop Fire Department of Lake Livingston, Texas. In 1966, before leaving Breckenridge, Margaret and Marvin became the proud parents of Toby Dale Hicks. They packed up their family and moved to Hartdale, Missouri, and in 1968, Margaret gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Sandy Ann. Margaret worked for a local hospital and became the assistant administrator.

In 1973, again the Hicks packed up their family and made one final move to the great state of Texas and the beautiful East Texas country surrounding Lake Livingston. Marvin and Margaret took over the management of the Lake Livingston Telephone Company and shortly after purchased the Telephony Company. In 1997, they sold Lake Livingston Telephone Company and retired to the Reata Ranch in the western Polk County where they enjoyed country living, riding horses, participating with their many Wagon 7 friends on the Salt Grass Trail Ride and the Rancher's Ride. Marvin and Margaret rode the Salt Grass Trail every day come sunshine or rain and spent many evenings with friends and family gathered around a fire sharing stories and laughter.

Eventually, they "un-retired" to manage their business, Eastex Security. Margaret enjoyed the challenge of helping to grow the many facets of their business. Margaret was very much involved in operating Eastex Security until the very end. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Livingston and was very active in MYF when her children were very young. Margaret was also involved with her husband Marvin in many community activities. Margaret's friendships not only touched the 4 corners of Polk County, but also the many friends in the great state of Texas and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Wagon7, Ranchers Ride, and the friends of her family of the elite Texas cowboy organization, Tejas Vaqueros.
