Margaret Elliott Smith, age 93, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, February 3, 2018.

She was born in Haynesville, Louisiana, on April 12, 1924, and had five sisters and three brothers, all of whom have preceded her in death. Margaret was only 12 years old when her mother passed away. Out of necessity, her working father left her with the responsibility of raising the children, the youngest being two years old.

She has been called the "matriarch" of Onalaska First Baptist Church where she has served our Lord and ministered to the youth, its congregation, and countless others and will continue to touch lives through those she has encountered.

She is survived by her son Michael A. Smith, Sr., and his wife Theresa, of Onalaska, her daughter Sherry Smith Franovich of New Braunfels, Texas, her daughter-in-law Melinda Walton of The Plains, Virginia, her grandson Michael A. Smith, Jr., and his wife Haley, of Cypress, Texas, her granddaughter Stacy Franovich Gipson of New Braunfels, granddaughter Lisa O'Banion and her husband Pat of Portland, Oregon, grandson Trey Stevenson and his wife Amy of Dodge, Texas, 14 great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Sylvan Anthony Smith, son Thomas Larry Smith, and granddaughter Laurie Ann Smith.
