Graveside services for Marjory Gerlach Brasfield, 71, of Phenix City, Alabama, will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Livingston, Texas with Rev. Joe MacDonald of the First Presbyterian Church of Livingston officiating. Marge was baptized, raised and married in the First Presbyterian Church of Livingston. A memorial service was held on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Columbus, Georgia.

Marjory was born May 28, 1943, in Lufkin, Texas, to Charles J. and Ruth O'Hara Gerlach and died March 5, 2015, peacefully at home in Phenix City, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, C.J. Gerlach and wife, Emma, J.J. O'Hara and wife, Ruth; parents, C.J. Gerlach Jr. and wife, Ruth (Dotsy); uncles, Louis Gerlach, and General J.J. O' Hara Jr.; aunts, Isabel Gerlach, Eunice Tucker, Marjory Green and Lillian Haley.

She is survived by her daughter, Bari O'Hara Geeslin (Bob) of Lumpkin, Georgia; son, Charles Lyle Brasfield (Robin) of Salem, Alabama; sisters, Gretchen Gerlach Chambers, Ruth Gerlach Dominy (Tom) all of Livingston, Texas; grandchildren, Corey Brasfield, Drew Brasfield, Justin Brasfield, Lyndsey Hinckley and Jonathan Hinckley of Alabama; special nieces, Carol Chambers of Weatherford, Texas, Cecilia Law (Danny) of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lynn Dominy (Brian) of Bar Harbor, Maine; great-nieces, Emma Law and Jessica Dominy; great-nephew, Spencer Dominy; along with other family and friends.

Marge was raised in Livingston and graduated from Livingston High School in 1961. She attended the University of Texas where she pledged Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and graduated in 1965. That same year she married Lyle Brasfield. They moved to Fort Hood where she began a 38 year teaching career. They later moved to Fort Benning, Georgia, where Marge continued her teaching career at Ft. Benning. After retirement, she was a professor and wrote curriculum for Kaplan University. She was on the library board in Phenix City and was active on the mission board at her church. Marge was also active in the choir at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and Lakewood Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her friends and family. Even after suffering a massive stroke in August, 2009, she continued to play bridge and enjoyed taking her grandsons to movies on Sunday afternoons. She was an avid reader who read 2-3 books per week.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church , Columbus, Georgia; Lumpkin Baptist Church, Lupkin, Georgia; or First Presbyterian Church of Livingston, Texas.
