Funeral services for Marlton Ray Harrison, 89, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Mike Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018 in the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas. Interment will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery in El Dorado, Arkansas on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
Marlton Ray Harrison was born on December 23, 1928 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He graduated from Northlet High School in Arkansas. During the Korean War, Ray served in the United States Army from January 1951 until May 1953 as a member of the 508 th Airborne Infantry. He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. After his discharge, he went to work for Magnolia Petroleum Co. in Smackover, Arkansas. He continued to work for chemical plants as an operator and retired from Amoco.
Ray was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ. For several years, he was active in teaching at the local jail and prison. Ray taught on Death Row and loved teaching young men on how to become Christians. For those of his students that were not on Death Row, he taught them how to become better people when they were released on parole.
Ray passed away on November 18, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Lee Harrison and Bertha Myrtle (Fletcher) Harrison; and brothers, Lewis Lee Harrison Jr. and Henderson Lamar Harrison. He is survived by his brother, Jerry Harrison and wife, Whitney of Woodville, Mississippi; daughter, Cynthia Feritta of Colmesneil, Texas; son, Gary Russell Harrison of Kirbyville, Texas; grandchildren, Shelby French, Samantha French, Creston French, Christopher French, Hayley Harrison, Gracie Miller, and Amanda Phillips; 4 great-grandchildren; dear friend, Randy Joe Fletcher; and numerous other relatives and friends.
