A Memorial Service was held for Mary Sack Dodd at 4:00 PM on Friday, December 9, 2011, at The First Baptist Church in Livingston, TX. Bro. Rusty Shuler officiated the service.
As a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident on December 6th, Mary lost her life to a new and better one. She was ""running errands"" taking care of business as was her daily habit.
Mary was born September 19, 1956, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Donna and Duane Sack. She came to Texas with her family in 1966 and has been a fun, smiling, flamboyant, yet gracious, Texan ever since. The most important thing describing Mary, if she were writing this, she would let to know that she was a Christian who loved her Jesus and hoped you knew Him too.
Mary' education was extensive, a small East Texas town - Livingston, First Baptist Church, Livingston High School, Houston Baptist College, management classes in the corporate world with a Master Degree from the School of Hard Knocks.
She developed an excellent reputation decorating store windows at Palais Royal and Sakowitz. The corporate talent evolved to a community effort to help local friends and businesses with their decorating. Mary had a successful yard service; was ""the cook for the Country Club""; and became Livingston' Camp Cho-Yeh Food Service Director - her second family. She co-managed City Grill. She was a co-host of a morning talk show on the local radio station, KETX. Mary wrote articles, volunteered for numerous projects including Habitat for Humanity and Main Street.
Three years ago, Mary survived a grave health crisis which put her in the category of ""disabled"", but Mary did not allow physical limitations to define the remainder of her life. She decorated anybody' anything and everything with Christmas trimming as her forte. She visited people and businesses, had weekly lunches with groups needing her listening ear and/or support, participated in self-improvement endeavors, encouraged others to keep going, keep doing, keep living and keep giving?Ǫ.and keep smiling! Mary loved people. Mary love her friends. Mary loved her Christianity.
Mary is survived by ""two beautiful sons"" (her words), Steven Louis and Matthew Duane; mother, Donna Sack; sister, Cathey Sack Rocadas; brother-in-law, Steve Paul; and aunt, Fran Sack Taylor.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Duane Sack; grandparents, Louis and Nellie Sack, Agnes Manchester; sisters, Barbara Ann Sack and Geri Sack Paul; niece, Laurah Nicole Paul and brother-in-law, Tony Rocadas.
