Mary Jane Erwin, age 89 of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away at home, on Sunday, Oct 26, 2014. She was born to Mildred and Robert Sepulvado on Feb 3,1925, in Zwolle, Louisiana.
She met and married the man of her dreams, and they raised a family of six children. She liked to brag she gave birth to all six in the '40s. She was a busy young mother and loved every minute of it, as she always wanted a large family.
Family and friends were Mary Jane's passion and delight in this life. She loved to host huge family events and had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and loved. She especially enjoyed playing games and was quite a formidable and overall very lucky opponent.
Travel was enjoyed all through her many years and her stories were enjoyed many times over. Another wonderful hobby was her needlework. She spent many long hours embroidering, only making items to give as gifts to lucky recipients. Her love of gardening was strong and her green thumb could coax a dead stick back to life.
She was a member of the Women's Welcome Club of Hot Springs.
A long time member of the BookEnders book group whose members travel among a three state area each quarter to spend a weekend focused on reading, eating and fun. In her retirement years her love of children was satisfied as she was "Nanny Jane" to the lovely Tillman daughters of Hot Springs, for many years.
The love of her life, James (Jim) E. Erwin, left this life on December 2, 2011. They had been married 72 years. She spoke of him every day and missed him so much. There's was a beautiful romance and marriage. After a terrible construction site accident left him unable to continue in that line of work, they took jobs as apartment office and maintenance managers, in Houston Texas. They worked together all day side by side and then played games into the evening.
Jim was a Texas boy and they lived most of their lives in Fort Worth and Houston. They especially enjoyed their weekend getaway and finally retirement home in Onalaska, Texas, for over 30 years. She and Jim raised their children in the Church of Christ, where she also taught Sunday school to the young ones.
Mary Jane is survived by her 6 children, Millie and her husband, Charles Sanders, of Niceville, Florida, Jimmy Erwin and his wife, Cheryl, of Dallas, Texas, Jane and her husband, Geary Hufstedler, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Walter Erwin of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Jerry Erwin and wife, Elaine, of Houston, Texas, and Doris Erwin of Livingston, Texas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
