Obituary

Maurice Elmore Palmer, affectionately known as ME, of Livingston, Texas, passed away Sunday January 29, 2023.  ME was born in Deshler, Nebraska on March 16, 1929 to Clarence, and Helen Ivy Davis Palmer.  He was raised on a farm in Nebraska and Kansas.  As a youth, ME was active in 4H, football, and farmed with his father.  He married Marge Jean Mumm in 1948, and started a family of three children.  In 1956 ME and family moved to Lake Jackson, Texas taking a job with Dow Chemical retiring after thirty years of loyal service.  In 1988 ME and Marge built a home on four acres outside Livingston returning to his love of nature.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife Marjorie Mumm Palmer; his second wife Ruby Loftis Palmer: brother Philp Palmer; sisters Donna Synder, Loetta Duey, Beth Ann Palmer; son Gary Palmer (Sharon); grandson Michael Palmer, and great great grandson Colton Palmer.

He is survived by Mary Ann Collins Palmer, his wife of twenty one years; daughters Kathleen Palmer Sharp, and Lynda Palmer Williams (Paul); sisters Dorothy Duey, Edith Kleen, step nephew Tom Collins (Barbara), Kami Greif (Jeff), Xan Benton (Keith), Samanth Tindall (Mike).  Grandchildren Quinton Sharp, Lance Sharp, Ronald Sharp, Colby Claiborne, Shannon Palmer, Misti Roy; fourteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

ME was active in the Christian Church of Lake Jackson and First Methodist Church of Livingston.  He loved to square dance, co-organized the Sippers wine club with his wife Mary Ann, and was an avid gardener; specializing in tomatoes, green beans and potatoes.  He was a jack of all trades and master of most.  If there was work to be done, he was in the middle of it.

ME had a zest for life, a generous heart, and a sense of humor.  He loved the local wildlife; feeding backyard birds, squirrels, and deer.  He especially loved his kitty cats, his orange Kubota tractor and his 1998 silver Ford F150.
