Obituary

Melba Josephine Romero Day was born on October 25, 1928, to Walter and Nolie Broussard Romero of Louisiana.  Surrounded by loved ones, Melba Jo passed away on May 17, 2023 at the age of 94.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William (Bill) Day; grandson, Patrick Day; sister, Delcye Romero; sister, Lena Dees; brother, Luke Romero; and brother, Walter (Dub) Romero Jr.

Melba was a devoted mother and leaves behind a cherished legacy. She is survived by her children: Mike and Erin Day of Magnolia, Pat and Lynnette Day of Conroe, Joe and Marilyn Day of Montgomery, and Tommy and Denise Murphy of Livingston.

Melba's love and presence extended to her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Jennifer Day and Nickie Vork, Kimberly and Quatro Brooks, Antonia and Jared Teneyuque, Lucy and Zach McDonald, Lindsay and JC Oneto, Candis Nunez, Brian and Kiera Day, Emily Day, Mandi and Brandon Pipes, Megan and Chad Rowe, and Macy and Garet Box.  Among her great-grandchildren are Cash, Bodie, and Duke; Natalia and Alex; Ari; Leah, Ellie, and Landen; Aubree, Braylon, and Cooper; Ava, Orlin, and Olivia; Carson and Carly; Hudson, Thomas, and Murphy; and Bradley Jo and Bennet.

Melba was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and she loved her church family dearly.  Over the years she served the church in many capacities such as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Chairman of the Bereavement Committee, Altar Server Trainer, Church Choir, Vice Regent of Catholic Daughters Association, and she was a Charter Member of her beloved Catholic Daughters. In addition, she faithfully counted the church collection for over 30 years.

Tall Pines Assisted Living was also near and dear to her heart, as she served as a volunteer there for several years.  A caretaker by nature, Melba went out of her way to make the residents feel loved and special, always bringing over her famous homemade pies for all to enjoy.

Melba Jo will always be remembered for her unwavering love, compassion, and devotion to her family, her community and her church. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Tall Pines Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice, her "Angels of God".
