Mrs. Spivey was born September 12, 1935 in Paris, Texas to parents, Vonnie Alton Brown and Myrtle Mae (Evans) Brown, and passed away December 7, 2019 in Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Donald Brown.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roland Hunter Spivey of Onalaska, Texas; daughter, Sheri Spivey of Humble, Texas, son, Jeff Spivey of Onalaska, Texas; sister, Margaret Ellis of Covington, Louisiana; brother, Gairee Brown of Onalaska, Texas; and 2 adopted children, Sara Wilson and Cassie LaFountain; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
During her life, Melba was born in Paris, Texas where she met and married her husband, Roland. Their journey in life took them many places throughout Texas. Their retirement home was on Lake Livingston where they resided in Idlewilde Addition for almost 30 years.
Melba's formal education started in Paris, Texas where she received honors through high school and Paris Jr. College. Her interest in school was business and accounting. She applied that knowledge throughout her working career with major employers and in her husband's trucking business. Melba had no interest in retiring from work. She continued active employment even in to her eighties until failing health required her to stop working.
Her active life with her husband was mostly around church where she was involved with many committees, Sunday School teaching, choir and music. Melba played piano for her church for as long as anyone can remember. Her start with music began at a very young age. Her genes in music came mostly from her father who played guitar, mandolin, and violin Melba could play the piano by ear and by music. She also played the mandolin. I'm sure today she is playing a grand piano in heaven for the heavenly choir. She will be greatly missed by her entire family.
