Obituary

Funeral services for Midge Duncan Burress will be were held Monday April 19, 2010 at 10:00am at the Blanchard Baptist Church in Livingston with Rev. Royce Pennington officiating and interment followed in the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas. Pallbearers were Phil Smith, R.E. Wortham, Johnny Oliver, Charles Oldner, Lewis Collins, Shorty Gonzales, Bob Losack, Lowell Cox, and Max Pepperhorst. Honorary Pallbearers were the church deacons, Bob Wilson and Marion Henegar..

She was born April September 1, 1916 in Haskell, Texas the daughter of Seward A. McDaniel and Beulah McJunkin McDaniel. She moved with her parents to Childress in 1918 and graduated from Lubbock Memorial Hospital with the highest honors as a Registered Nurse in 1938. She worked in the Operating Room at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas. She married Tommie Duncan in 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and great grandchild, Gabriel Young.

Midge joined the Army Nurse Corps in February of 1943 and served in England and France as was discharged as 1st Lt. in 1946. She received the American Theater Medal and The Europian, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal.

After being discharged she returned to Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, but moved to Houston in 1955 and was employed as O.R. Supervisor at M.D. Anderson for almost 30 years. She retired and moved to Livingston in 1985. She joined the Blanchard Baptist Church and became a very active member and taught Sunday School for many years, gave the Mission Study in W.M.U., and was president of the Sonshiners Group for several years. She helped all the handicapped members providing transportation to church, and Dr.' appointments etc.

She married B.E. Burress in 1996 and the two became partners in all these activities. She was a radio ham operator since 1985, a member of the Piney Woods Players, the Heritage Society and a member of the VFW and Auxillary since 1985. She volunteered with the Hospice, Habitat For Humanity and the Community Concert. She made several Mission trips across the border to Mexico and has sponsored children in the Phillipians for over 30 years thru the Christian Childrens Fund Inc.

She is survived by her husband Boyce E. Burress of Livingston, Sharon & Don Hirt, daughter & son in law of Livingston, David Duncan, son of Houston, Texas, Randy & Linda Duncan, son & daughter in law of Bastrop, Texas, grandchildren; Patrick & Jessica Duncan and Shannon Young, great grandchildren; Shawn Duncan and Noah Young
