Mrs. Young graduated from Corrigan High School in 1939 and continued her education with a Bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin and a Master's degree from Sam Houston State University. She married Jake N. Young in Jacksonville, Florida in 1944 where Jake was training to be a Navy aviator. She taught in the Polk County public school systems at Bold Springs, Big Sandy, and Livingston. Her passion was coaching girl's basketball in Livingston, winning 14 district crowns with 10 consecutive District Championships. In her free time, Miriam enjoyed playing bridge and gardening; however her main interest was in music. She sang at numerous weddings, was a member of the music study club, the First Baptist Church choir, and a trio called "The Sentimentalists." She also liked to travel to Europe. She would spend summers organizing friends for a tour group through a travel agent. After Jake died in 1981, she retired to her home in Livingston with her sisters nearby. She was an active member of the Fannie Mae Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Livingston.

A very special thank you to her caregivers, Brenda Gonzales and Rebecca Searle, and to the doctors and staff of Hospice In The Pines.
