Funeral services for Obrey Bradford Alec, also known as "Big O", 57, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in the Indian Village Assembly of God in Livingston, Texas with Rev. David Busby officiating. Interment will follow in the Alabama-Coushatta Reservation Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 in the Indian Village Assembly of God Church.
Obrey was born June 15, 1962 in Houston, Texas to parents, Cecil Lang Alec Sr. and Avie Portia (Sylestine) Alec, and passed away January 13, 2020 in Lufkin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Logan Alec; and the mother of his children, Mary Sylestine Alec.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna Maldonado; son, Tobine Bradford Alec; daughter, Portia Cheyenne Alec; granddaughter, Lilly-Ann Elizabeth Alec; brothers, Lyndon Alec and wife, Rebecca, Cecil Alec Jr., and Fred Alec; sister, Paula Alec; and aunt, Sharon Miller; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
During his life, Obrey was on the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas Tribal Council from July 1995 - July 1998 and again from January 2017 until his death in January 2020. In his younger years, Obrey also worked at the Tribal Tourist Complex and for the Forestry Department at the Reservation. After high school, Obrey attended Angelina College where he was a pitcher for their baseball team. In his free time, he loved to play the drums, was an avid golfer, and composed numerous Native American songs.
