Obituary

Oscar Eugene Bailey, born February 25, 1935, died peacefully in his chair on September 12, 2024 at the blessed age of 89. Gene was known by many and by many names: Oscar, Gene, Eugene, Mr. Bailey, or simply Bailey. He was drafted at the young age of 17 for the Korean War and lead a full life as a career US Army Master Seargeant retiring after 22 years of service. Mr. Bailey's known war and service accommodations include the Korean Service Medal, Meritorious service medal, Army commendation medals, Good conduct medal 7 knots, as well as countless other trophies, awards, certificates, and medals.

His love for others and pursuit of happiness in life were what led him to prosper in his many community leadership roles and his pursuit of singing and playing guitar in various Country Bluegrass bands. In addition to playing his guitar alongside many early country music and bluegrass musicians, Oscar served as a  Masonic Lodge Master Mason (32nd degree honor), Veterans of Foreign War Post Commander (last Post 1618), Veterans of Foreign War Cootie Commander as well as the American Legion, serving as Post Commander.

Oscar was married several times in his life and will be meeting all of his former spouses and a beloved daughter, Valerie L. Bailey in heaven. For now, he is survived by his only son, William E. Bailey, spouse Brandi and daughters Curreen and Aurelia of Livingston Texas, his grandson Hunter Whitney and spouse Marian of Franklin Tennessee, his daughters Barbara Ann Johnson and spouse Mike of Las Vegas Nevada, Dena Whitney and spouse Shawn and daughter Autumn of Tennessee as well as several loving nieces, nephews, additional grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Graveside memorial service arrangements will be announced at a later time as a celebration of life reunion is still being determined.
