Obituary

Long time Livingston resident, Mr. Otto Lewis Hawkins,Sr., died on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at his residence, at the age 100.

Otto Hawkins married Willouise Parker on Dec. 24, 1941. They raised their two children in a loving Christian home. The believed in honoring the Lord and Honoring each other. It is often said that young love is a beautiful thing, which is true; however, an even more beautiful thing is ""old love."" The love, respect and dedication that they shared was beautiful and did not fade with time. Willouise was by his side until the very end, taking care of him as only she could do. Their love and dedication to each other should serve as an inspiration to married couples young and old alike.

Mr. Hawkins moved to Livingston in 1935. In that same year he became a member of the First Methodist Church. Through his church service, Mr. Hawkins worked with the youth and was Sunday School superintendent. Mr. Hawkins served the church in many different roles. In fact, he served on every church committee except the Women''s Auxiliary.

In 1942, Mr. Hawkins joined the Army-Air Force. He honorabley served his country for three years and then returned to Livingston to raise a family. He was employed with Ogletree Lumber Sales where he served as their business manager until his retirement in 1972.

Mr. Hawkins believed strongly in service to his community. He was a former member of the Rotary Club and was a Master Mason for 75 years. Mr. Hawkins also supported many youth organizations in Livingston. He was instrumental in building the first city swimming pool. He also worked with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts organizations and served as scout leader for many years. He helped several local young men attain Eagle Scout recognition.

Mr. Hawkins was an avid gardener. His favorite was roses. At one time he had a beautiful rose garden with over 100 rose bushes. His other hobby was ""piddling."" He loved to take things apart and ""fix"" them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle Mae and William B. Hawkins; sister Helen and brothers, Burt, Ernest and Coy.

Mr. Hawkinds is survived by his wife of 68 years, Willouise; son, Otto, Jr. and wife Bonnie, daughter, Ann and husband Dude Hill of Livingston; grandchildren, Jimmy and Tonda Hawkins, Don & Teri Hawkins, Amy and Chris Mullins, Julie and Scott Hargraves and Chad and Mary Hill; great grandchildren, David and Justin Hawkins, Joshua and Zachary Hawkins, Morgan and Mason Mullins, Bryan Riddle and Brayden Hargraves, and Zane and Maci Grace Hill. He is also surived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include: Jimmy Hawkins, Don Hawkins, Scott Hargraves, Chris Mullins, Tom Keeland, Richard Preston, Bernard Kuzniarek and Ronnie Huett.

Honorary Pallbearers include: Ben Royden Ogletree, Greg Ogletree, Sidney Smith, Richard Collins, B.R. Haynes, Corky Cochran, Allen Peeebles, Robert McLaurin, Tom Rice, Jr., Benny Glover, Jerry Marsh and the members of Masonic Lodge No. 14 AF&AM.

Services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Livingston at 2:00pm on Tuesday, march 30th. Cochran Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services were held at Rice Cemetery in Ollie, Texas under the direction of the Trinity Lodge No. 14.
