IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ozell Rosalee
Rawlinson
August 23, 1920 – October 8, 2022
Sister Ozell Rosalee Rawlinson (known as Nannie to most) was born August 23, 1920 in Cushing, Texas to parents, Thomas Herman Williford and Paralee Denney Williford.
Being the oldest of 6 children, she helped her mother and daddy when she was 12 years old, to wash clothes for 9 people on a rub board, wring out by hand through two rinse waters, hang them out on clotheslines, including the twins, Winnon and Quinnon's diapers, milk cows, raise a big garden, and helped her daddy cut down trees for firewood and the cook stove.
Sister Ozell worked at Red Flat Canning Plant, then at Looneyville Canning Plant without pay, to help pay off a government loan, canning over 1000 jars and cans. When she was 7, she picked cotton to buy herself a coat.
On February 15, 1936, at age 15, she married Ardie V. Rawlinson of Cushing and before age 20, they had a son, James Harold and a daughter, Shirley Jean. By age 19, she learned to sew by hand and made their clothes out of flour sacks. On February 28, 1944, another baby girl was born, Audrey Nell, in Pelly/Goose Creek, Texas.
She had gone to church her entire life and loved to sing, so she and her husband sang together for the Lord and presided over prayer meetings in Cushing in their automotive shop, moving cars out and pouring sawdust in -- very primitive, but God didn't mind -- He came too!
Then, war years brought much work to Houston, where they moved. Eventually they found the people of God of The Houston Gospel Assembly Church in Port Houston and became faithful attendees for the remainder of their lives.
She has been in the Livingston Gospel Assembly Church since 2009 under the late Brother Hugh Klodzinski, Founder, Pastor and her son-in-law, who preceded her in death March 20, 2020. Her present pastor is Brother Leslie Modisette.
Sister Rawlinson is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ardie V. Rawlinson; daughter Audrey Nell Phillips; son, James Harold Rawlinson; brothers, Melvin and Marlin Williford; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Klodzinski; sisters, Mary Lee Deffenbaugh and Quinnon Stanfield; brother, Winnon Williford and wife Goldie; sister-in-law, Corene Williford; 6 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends.
We want to give a heart felt "thank you" to Cochran Funeral Home and Kindred Hospice for their loving care.
