He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Donald & Pam Young; daughter and son-in- law, Priscilla and Johnny Updegraff; brother and sister-in-law, Winford (Bud) & Jeannie Young; sister-in-law, Mary Young; grandchildren; Elisha Hopkins, Rikki Neel, Daniel Hopkins, Emily Deaton, Jack Preston Deaton, and Kris Scifers; step grandchildren, Chelsea Reue, and Brylynn Kilroy; great grandchildren, Onui Garcia, Dorothy Garcia, Brityn Howeth, Taran Neel, Kellan Neel, Bradley Hopkins, Cecilia Hopkins, Olivia Hopkins, Emily Hopkins, Kylie Scifers, Tyler Scifers, and Thomas Preston Deaton; step great grandchildren, Jackson Reue, Ava Reue, CJ Kilroy, and Preston Kilroy; great-great grandchildren: James Daniel Hopkins and one on the way, Cecilia's baby.

Preston joined the United States Navy and traveled to Japan and various other ports. He then returned to Shepherd and married Dorothy Thompson in 1954 and they drove back to San Diego where he was stationed. They later returned to Shepherd and their son, Donald Charles was born in 1955; daughter, Priscilla Kay in 1957; and daughter, Cecilia Diane in 1959.

Preston LOVED to fish, it was his favorite pastime outside of driving an 18 wheeler with his wife Dorothy or being on a motorcycle. As team drivers, they drove all over the U.S. and parts of Canada, known as the couple who wore matching shirts, which she made. They drove for Road Runner Trucking Co. and for every 100,000 miles they were awarded a new truck: in three years they were awarded 9 new trucks, that's 900,000 miles in three years.  They drove for C&H Trucking as well as others for over two decades. He logged enough miles to have circled the earth 18 times. When they weren't in the truck they were on the motorcycle traveling and camping across the U.S.  Preston was a firm but loving father and taught by example, good character, manners and morals. He taught his family how to take care of themselves and to be responsible, that work was important, pay your bills and remember to enjoy family and spend time with them as much as possible. He left this world owing no man and with all his affairs in order.

He told his family, "I have enjoyed my life". Preston and Dorothy's church was the open road. They helped so many motorist and fellow truckers on numerous occasions and actually saved more than one life.
