Obituary

Reynard Marian Satory, 91, born March 6, 1926 in Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on July 31, 2017 at 9:50 AM in Livingston, Texas. He grew up in Albert City, Iowa, where he graduated early from Albert City High School in 1943 at age 17 to join the U.S. Navy honorably serving his country during WWII. He was on U.S.S. Arenac S.P.A. 128 achieving the rank of Radioman Third Class. In his 50's he took a summer to travel around the U.S.A. to visit his navy buddies.

After discharge from the Navy in 1947, Rey began his educational journey earning the following degrees: BA at Buena Vista College, BS at Iowa State University, graduate work at Mankato State College, advanced work at University of South Dakota, and MA at University of Alabama.

Rey began his teaching career in the small schools of Iowa including Mondamin, Kirkman-Irwin and Graettinger. He had a passion for teaching and mentoring kids. He was President of Iowa State Education Association 1970-71. In 1967 he began his counseling career at LeMars Community High School where he stayed until he retired at 62 in 1988.

Rey met Ione Ruth Whitehouse in college and they married in 1951. They were happily married for 66 years. He provided a stable, loving home to his 5 children who tried to give him a quiet house on his birthday and Father's Day. He and Ione retired to Spirit Lake, Iowa, as their summer home base, traveling 17 years around the U.S. with their RV until 2007 when he had a stroke. They then moved to Livingston, Texas. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in LeMars and St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Spirit Lake.

Rey was always engaged, wanting to learn and challenge his mind including working crosswords, Toastmasters, reading many genre and his Louis L'Amour collection. He was a handyman extraordinaire who could fix or figure out anything from dolls and bikes to plumbing and rewiring an entire house.

He loved being outside and his physical activities included bicycling, often riding five to ten miles a day, fishing, summer travels with his family stopping along the road to see a historic site or going to museums, and a pontoon trip with two teens down the Missouri River. He was ever learning something new like skiing at 55 with the Sioux City Downhill Ski Club or riding a Harley in his 60s and going to Sturgis.

Rey was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Meta (Behrens) Satory; brothers Roger and Rodney Satory; daughter Sallie Beth (Satory) Sunny Sigaty; and granddaughter, Aubrey Ione Sigaty.

Rey is survived by his wife Ione Ruth (Whitehouse) Satory of Livingston, Texas; children Randy Rae Satory (Wolfe) of Livingston, Texas; David Lynn Satory of Sioux City, Iowa; Cheryl Kay Satory (Fedders) of Denver, CO, and Jennifer Marie (Satory) Christoffer of Red Wing, Minnesota; sister Mary (Satory) Macrander of Carter Lake, Iowa; grandchildren Jamie Rae (Wolfe) Kinser and Dusty Michelle Wolfe (Meadors) of Texas, Joshua Gene Fedders and Amy Maire (Fedders) Latimer of Colorado, Cora Marie Christoffer of Minnesota; and his great grandchildren, Hannah Ray Harder, Tiffany Nicole Kinser, James Dalton Kinser and Colin Wolfe Meadors of Texas.

A memorial service will held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 806 W Jones St, Livingston, Texas, 10:00 A.M. August 12, 2017. A memorial service will also be held at ST. Alban's Episcopal Church at 2011 23rd St, Spirit Lake, Iowa, 10:00 A.M. August 22, 2017. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at each. Interment of ashes will follow at St. Alban's Episcopal Church – Columbarium.
