Graveside services for Rickey Gerald Rogers, 74, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the Magnolia Hill Cemetery in Segno, Texas with Susan Kay Richardson officiating.

Former Baytown resident Rickey Gerald Rogers, 74, died November 5, 2020, of COVID pneumonia in Conroe, Texas. Rickey was born March 6, 1946, in Baytown, Texas to O.J. and Ruby Rogers. Rickey could accomplish anything he set his mind to do and developed a thriving rental property business while working full-time: first as a machinist at DuPont and then as a console operator at Exxon Chemical Plant—Butyl Polymers. When he retired from Exxon in 2000, he moved to Segno, Texas full-time.

Rickey spent his free time fishing and deer hunting, and in his later years, raised catfish and koi by his Lake in Segno. He attended the same high school as his mother, Robert E. Lee in Baytown, where he met Bettie Jo Brown. Their marriage began July 10, 1964 and lasted almost 50 years. After graduation, they lived in Baytown while they developed their eventual retirement property long-distance. After Bettie's passing on December 24, 2013, Rickey continued to improve the property they both loved. He enjoyed hosting family and friends at his Lake, where many happy hours were spent swimming and floating, fishing for catfish and perch, and riding the golf cart to feed the resident donkey Wilberry, aka Wilbur. He also took pleasure in cruising to RhondaLou Island on the family pedalboat, a tradition that began with his parents during summers with their children and grandchildren on a different Lake at Camp Ruby not far away.

Rickey is survived by his girlfriend, Sharron Hejtmancik of Montgomery, Texas; son, Richard Leslie Rogers of Votaw, Texas; daughter, Dr. Rhonda Kaylynn Cooke of St. Louis, Missouri; sister, Gracie Lynn Lester of Huffman, Texas; brother, James Leslie Rogers of Baytown, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Kay Jones of Liberty, Texas; nieces, Ruby Michelle McLaughlin, Amy Rogers Hennigan, and Stravoula "Stacey" Maria Dreaden; nephews, Wesley Dwayne Lester, James Ovid Rogers, Spiros Theodore Charalampous, and Mark Clayton Jones; and many friends who will miss the joy he took in everyday activities.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ovid J. and Ruby Grace Rogers; wife, Bettie Jo Rogers; and younger brother, Ovid Junior Rogers, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a cause Rickey supported, nephew Zachary Charalampous' gofundme page for an epilepsy service dog: https://www.gofundme.com/f/Paws-for-an-Epileptic-cause
