IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ricky J.
Straily
February 19, 1946 – September 12, 2021
Ricky J Straily was born February 19, 1946, to Maxine Elizabeth and JD Straily, in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. He went to be with Jesus on Sunday, September 12, 2021.
He was the second born of four children, and grew up in a house full of Jesus in Choctaw, Oklahoma. He attended Falls Creek summer camp and there he sang How Great Thou Art for the first time. It became his favorite hymn and when asked recently said it still was to this day.
He played every sport he could in high school and lettered in all of them. He always had a personality that drew people to him and had a lot of friends even at a young age. Rick was larger than life and while that started in high school, he carried that with him always. He graduated in 1964, and by then had run out of room on his letter jacket for all the patches he had lettered in.
In 1965, he was drafted into the army and served in Vietnam. There he fought for our freedom, and though Vietnam changed him, he also became the man God needed him to be through it.
He worked for the airlines for over twenty years, and there experienced traveling on a whole new level. He was able to see places like Guam, England, Scotland, and most of the United States. He enjoyed his job and was good at it for many years.
In 1990 he married the love of his life, Beth, and side by side they went on numerous adventures. Together they coached special needs basketball, taught Bible studies, coached baseball, went snow skiing, and traveled. They had many other journeys that took them through life. Celebrating holidays and summers together laughing and loving along the way. Together they left a mark in all the lives they touched.
Rick also worked for Southwestern Consolidated Directories for over 20 years. There he did what he knew best…lived his larger-than-life way and making friends along the way that would last a lifetime.
Rick loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and supported them in countless ways. He was found at baseball games, knowing most of the kids on the team and rooting for them all. Often heard cheering loudly and even booing when a bad call was made. He was always a phone call away. He prayed continuously for all of them and encouraged them to grown in their faith and knowledge of the Lord.
Rick leaves behind a legacy of love…Love for life…Love for his family, but most of all, love of the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ron Straily; brother, Max D Straily; sister, Patricia Bare; nephew, Brandon Baxter; and his beloved wife, Beth.
He is survived by daughter, Nicole Vigil and husband Josh; stepdaughter, Roxanna Light and David; grandchildren, Rebekah, Evelyn and Caleb Vigil, Jason and wife Samantha Harris, and Elisa Harris; great grandchildren, Brodie Smith and Hailey, Dawson Harris and Savannah, Adalyn Harris, Zoie Cochran, Trip Teel, Asa Valderez and Axel Harris; great-great grandchild, Saylor Harris; sister, Donna and John Peebles; brother-in-law, Sonny Berry and wife Cathy; sister-in-law, Kathy and James Parker; and sister-in-law, Cheryl and Craig Carter; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
