Obituary

Funeral services for Robert Clayton "Bob" Mize, 75, of Onalaska, Texas, will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Onalaska, Texas with Bro. Don Davis officiating. Interment will be at Tool Cemetery in Tool, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 1, 2014, also at Cochran Funeral Home in Onalaska.

Robert was born on April 29, 1939 in Gladewater, Texas and passed away on June 29, 2014 in Livingston, Texas. He is a graduate of Alvin High School, Class of 1957; he is also a graduate of University of Houston, Class of 1963. He worked in the East Texas oil fields while attending Henderson County Junior College for one year and one year at Alvin Junior College. Robert also worked in a lab at Monsanto – Chocolate Bayou on grave yard shift, full time, while attending U of H. He was employed by IBM at the Houston branch upon graduation from U of H, with degrees in Math and Physics. His first large client was one of the major banks in Galveston. He was transferred to the Dallas office after three years and continued to work with the banking industry division of IBM. Later, transferred again, this time to Los Angeles, California, where he spent his last twenty years as a Senior Systems Engineer with check processing in the banking division of IBM. During this time, he was also part of an international sales force which led to extensive travel throughout Asia. Since May 2002, Robert has served on the Board of Directors for the Polk County Freshwater Supply District #2. He was also a founding board member of the DaVita Patient Citizens advocacy group. Upon receiving his kidney transplant, Robert was bestowed the title of Board Emeritus.

Mr. Mize is preceded in death by his parents, Pinkney Thomas Mize and Carrie Lee (Wood) Mize; sister, Lora Sharp; and brother, C.J. Mize.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Ann Eberhardt-Mize of Onalaska, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Ray Keefer of Palm Bay, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Anjie and Jon Suter of Marietta, Georgia; grandsons, Chris Keefer, Stephen Keefer, Zach Suter, John Keefer, and Nick Suter; nieces, Barbara Miller, Shirley Kay, Vicki Wright, and Traci Henson; nephews, Charles Sharp and Jimmy Mize; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Polk County SPCA or F.A.I.T.H Military Support Group of Livingston, Texas.
