Robert Eugene Morris Jr.

September 15, 1931 — June 5, 2026

Robert Eugene Morris, Jr., affectionately known as Gene, of Etoile, Texas, passed peacefully on June 5, 2026 at his home surrounded by the love of his family, with his son, Robert Eugene Morris III, by his side.

Born on September 15, 1931, in Lufkin, Texas, Gene lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, service, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Seaman First Class before his honorable discharge. He carried that same spirit of dedication and perseverance throughout his life.

For 67 years, Gene was a proud member of Pipefitters Local 211, where he earned the respect of his fellow craftsmen through his strong work ethic, skill, and integrity. He believed in providing for his family and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need. To many, he was more than a provider—he was a protector, mentor, and friend.

Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jo Morris; his parents, Robert Eugene Morris Sr., Ollie Myrtle Robertson Morris and Ruthie "Reinny" Lorene Morris; and his brothers, Linwood "L.D." Morris, Charles Morris, Geary Morris, and Leon Morris.

He is survived by his children, Kenneth Eugene Morris and wife Mona Morris; Charlotte Ann Capps; Phyllis Renee Schultz; Robert Eugene Morris III; and Marilyn Kay Gers. He is also survived by his brothers, Hubert "Hootie" Morris, Alton Morris, and Bruce Morris; his sisters, Bobbie Joyce Vail, Hellen Baker, and Carol Ann Morris; his grandchildren, Lance Browning, Kenneth Capps, Kristin Jones, Amber Lucas, Ricci Pitcock, Hillary Thomasson, Jay Brown, Christina Stone, and Cassandra Rowe; along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy.

Anyone who knew Gene knew he was a fine hunter with an aim you didn't challenge. He could work a knot into a rope better than any man around and possessed a toughness that was matched only by his generosity. He was fiercely loyal to his family and cared for countless people throughout his life as if they were his own. Whether family by blood or family by choice, Gene made sure those around him were looked after.

Above all, Gene was a fighter in every sense of the word. Through life's hardships and triumphs, he met every challenge with determination, grit, and resilience. His strength, wisdom, and steadfast love leave an enduring mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

His legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the friends he supported, and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.
