Royce Gene Nettles, 87, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, in Slidell, Louisiana.

Royce was born August 15, 1937, in Livingston, Texas, to Joe Sherman Nettles and Carrie Tolbert Nettles.  In 1960, he married the one love of his life, Doris Ann McWhorter, in La Marque, Texas, they had three sons.  In 1976, the family moved to Slidell.

Royce was a graduate of Sam Houston State University, where he excelled in Track and Field as a Texas State champion javelin thrower. He set several Texas State javelin records at the time. He retired from Shell Oil Company in 1998, after a 36 year career.

Royce was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Doris Ann (McWhorter) Nettles.

He is survived by three children, Paul Nettles (Carrie), Mark Nettles (Deanna), Cris Nettles (Carrie); three grandchildren, Tyler Nettles, Zoe Nettles, and Cate Nettles.

Graveside services will be held in Royce's honor on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the Nettles Cemetery in Livingston, Texas.
