Ruth Gerlach Dominy, of Livingston, was born in December 1946 and passed away on December 13, 2020 in Livingston, Texas at the age of 73 years.
Ruth was born in Livingston where she grew-up and graduated from high school in 1965. In 1967, she married Tommy Dominy and his work took them to Harris County. Ruth always considered Livingston her home although she left Polk County for fifteen years to live in Houston and later Saudi Arabia. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church and resumed involvement in 1982 when her family returned to Livingston and her daughter enrolled in high school. Ruth returned to college and earned her degree, teaching certificate, and certification as a dyslexia specialist. She was a member of the Livingston ISD teaching staff for 20 years prior to her retirement in 2009.
Ruth didn't have a "mean bone" in her body. Her life was about people and sharing her love with each of them; her students, her friends, and most of all her family. It brought her great joy to gather with them, cook for them, play games with them and most of all, laugh with them while enjoying a good meal and their fellowship. Her friends and family knew her as Mimi, Ruthie girl, and RuRu. Her lifelong passions were horseback riding, fishing, singing and playing the piano. Her voice, laughter, and light will be greatly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Tommy Dominy of Livingston; her daughter, Lynne Dominy; two grandchildren, Jessica and Spencer Dominy; nieces Bari Geeslin, Cecilia Law, and Carol Chambers; nephew, Charles Brasfield; sister-in-law Annette Lowe and husband Bobby Lowe; and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles J. Gerlach, Jr. and Ruth "Dotsy" O'Hara Gerlach; her sisters Gretchen Chambers and Marjory Brasfield; and her guardian-angel aunt Isabel E. Gerlach.
Honorary Pallbearers include: Molly and David Parkhill, Brooks and Sandy Haley, James and Jullie Bergman, Mike Dominy, Jake Dominy, Rance DeLaney, Gary Lowe, Charles Brasfield, Linda Johnson, Bob Geeslin, Mary Shepherd, Jan French, Carol Pixley, and Judy Alderson.
Due to COVID-19, a virtual memorial service will be held prior to interment. A graveside service will be held for family and limited close friends, with Rev. Randy Lowe officiating. It will include face masks and social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ruth's name to the First Presbyterian Church, 910 N. Washington Ave., Livingston, Texas. 77351
The family requires that anyone wishing to attend the graveside service, must practice social distancing and wear a facial covering. If you do not feel comfortable or you do not feel well the family understands your non-attendance. Please reach out to them through our online guestbook or personal contact at a later date.
